Grade 1 (Hourly) Position Description: The University of Louisville School of Dentistry prepares students for a career in Dentistry. Dental Clinic Staff are an integral part of that preparation in that they facilitate the interface between student providers and their patients during a critical time in their studies, within the clinic setting. While their first two years is spent in a traditional classroom setting, student providers spend their last two years in a dental clinic setting learning hands on. The Dental Receptionist directly support the work of the students as they progress towards completion of their clinical requirements. This position greets patients in the Emergency and Limited Care clinics on the first floor, checks patients in and completes their registration as patients of record. Eligible for $3,000 sign-on/retention bonus Essential Duties and Responsibilities Works with faculty, peers, and supervisors to deliver customer service oriented and patient centered care within the DMD clinics. As the first point of contact with the patient, the Dental Receptionist checks patients in daily, confirming their contact information, current insurance, and consent forms, and updating as necessary. Verifies insurance and details benefit coverage for patients when appropriate. Conducts financial transactions: accepts and posts payments, issues receipts, and balances cash drawer at end of day. Pursues payments of overdue balances. Answers the phone in a timely and professional manner. Schedules patient appointments when necessary. Assists students and clinic staff in maintaining the accuracy of Electronic Health Records. Assists Office manager and PCC in the processing of external and internal referrals. Continues to be a resource to patients by answering questions regarding billing and payment plans, treatment plans and insurance coverage. Maintains HIPAA, OSHA and Infection Control compliance at all times. Other duties as assigned.
